A Recipe (for Modern Life)

Ingredients:

2 handfuls of optimism

A swoosh of guilt

6 pulses of anxiety (daily)

1 peeled heart

4 ripe unwanted memories

Numerous pieces of previously disregarded experiences you are trying to forget

Unlimited unrequited love

Method:

Carefully sieve the unwanted memories into a bowl with the 6 pulses of anxiety (you can always add more later if needed). Whilst doing this throw in a swoosh of guilt.

Fold the unwanted memories into the mix using a metal spoon to ensure they are evenly distributed. Add another swoosh of guilt.

Stop for coffee to recharge the anxiety.

Set aside to allow the mix to grow. 20 minutes should do it.

You can now whisk in the 2 handfuls of optimism. And have another coffee. At this point you will find yourself spooning in the numerous pieces of previously disregarded experiences you are trying to forget whether you want to or not.

Don’t resist. Let it happen. It’s going to happen anyway.

Put the mix into an oven proof dish. Or don’t. But put it into the oven anyway.

Bake for half an hour.

Remove from dish and place on a rack to cool off.

Go out.

Forget about it.

Come home and before you’ve had time to remember what it was all about again cover it in a liberal helping of unrequited love.
